Disability Assembly WA (DAWA) was proud to partner with the City of Stirling for the launch of the City’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) on 2 July 2026.

The event brought together people with disability, families, advocates, service providers, local government representatives and community members to explore how lived experience can help shape more inclusive communities.

A highlight of the evening was a series of Story Station discussions focused on community participation, accessible places and spaces, changing attitudes and understanding, and employment opportunities. Speakers shared personal experiences and practical insights, helping to bring the DAIP themes to life.

The event also provided an opportunity to discuss the newly established WA Disability Employment Network (DEN), which aims to improve employment outcomes for people with disability through collaboration between government, industry and the disability sector.

DAWA also shared insights from its work on “Care Succession and Planning for Families with Intellectual Disability in WA”, highlighting the need for clearer pathways, coordinated planning and greater support for families navigating future care arrangements.

DAWA thanks the City of Stirling for its partnership and commitment to hearing directly from people with lived experience and acknowledges the speakers who generously shared their stories throughout the evening.
